Finding out your donor code

A match can be made when two or more people who have joined the register share the same donor code. This could be the donor and offspring, or it could be two offspring raised in different families but with the same donor.

The clinic where treatment or donation took place can give you your donor code when you send a donor code form. (download below) The donor code is essential for matching. They may also be able to give you non-identifying information about your donor or donor offspring. This can include the donor’s physical appearance, occupation, interests, number of donor offspring, and their years of birth. You have the option to authorise Jigsaw DNA Connect to contact the clinic on your behalf on your registration form.
Finding each piece of information is not always easy or possible, so it does take time to ensure that all information is verified and protected.

When there is a match on the register we will contact the clinic to confirm the donor code. If there is a match, both applicants will be contacted and their wishes discussed.

When there is no Donor Code

Unfortunately, there are instances where donor code records cannot be located or the records no longer exist. Please contact us and we can make further enquiries on your behalf. We can also provide support and intermediary services to people who have been contacted through direct-to-consumer DNA testing. See our resources here > No identifying information will be shared without your consent.

Are you ready to join?

It is very important to take time to think about the many feelings and decisions that you and your family may face when trying to connect with donor-conceived relatives.

You may want to consider how you might feel if:

· You don’t have a match on the register.
· You have a match and a donor-related person wants to make contact with you.
· You find out you have a large number of donor-related siblings.
· No information is available.

You may find it helpful to talk to someone who has experience in similar situations and can give you support and understanding. Jigsaw DNA offers a range of services to support you and your family. See our Support Services here >

There is no charge to join the register or for our support services. You can register online, or if you prefer a paper form, download it here:
